Success "Down Under" for Wayne Thomas at WT Consulting Recruiting a Managing Director for Melbourne

From a briefing meeting with the client on 12 August 2003 - to a first "benchmark" candidate in front of the client on 15 August 2003 - to a strong shortlist from Australia and Singapore, submitted to the client on 22 September 2003 - to completion (ie. offer and acceptance by the successful candidate) on 15 October 2003 - and a start date of 12 November 2003!

An outstanding result - it just shows what can be achieved with the right attitude, commitment - and support team!

Timing and sensitivity were essential factors. Adopting an extensive program that encompassed a mix of search*, advertising**, websites and WTC's database, and by striking hard as soon as sufficient appropriate candidates were identified, gave us the platform to exceed the client's expectations - both in the quality of the shortlist and in the speed of delivery.

Earlier in 2003 WT Consulting were delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities to this new client - a substantial international division of a £multi-billion UK plc. Following a successful recruitment, a very close and regular ongoing dialogue has rapidly evolved, such that WTC have been involved in a variety of wider issues such as reviewing remuneration for all of the European senior management, and "heads up on the horizon" discussions in respect of succession planning or under-performance issues giving rise to likely recruitment needs six to twelve months out.

* The search process was conducted from the UK - the 7 to 9 hour time difference merely meant turning the day upside down! The process continued even as short-listing interviews commenced in Australia - with phone call updates from the search team to Wayne at 2am and 4am UK time - on a Sunday - essential support commitment.

** Excellent advice from our advertising house, RAA Sprague Gibbons, pointed us towards "The Australian" as the prime national media. It worked exceptionally well providing the major part of the shortlist - and indeed provided the successful candidate. Clearly with emailed applications no time was lost.

Having left the UK late on a Monday night and arriving in Sydney early on Wednesday morning, interviews were conducted in Sydney on Wed/Thurs/Fri, Melbourne on Saturday, Perth on Sunday night and Monday, and Singapore on Tuesday. A review with the client in Singapore, and home late on Wednesday night!

A typical example of the focus and commitment levels that WT Consulting brings to each and every assignment - and a prime factor in WTC's sustained track record of delivery.
